A company's registered office is its official address for legal correspondence and is shown on the public register. If your company moves, or you simply want to use a different address, this needs to be updated with Companies House.

What You May Need

• The company's registration number
• The new address, which must be a full UK address in the country where the company is registered

Step-by-Step Process

1. Confirm the new address is valid. The registered office must be an "appropriate address" — one where documents can be delivered and acknowledged.
2. File the change with Companies House. This is generally submitted online.
3. Wait for confirmation. The change takes effect once Companies House has processed it.
4. Update related records. Let your bank, accountant and any other relevant parties know of the new address.

Important Considerations

A PO box alone is generally not accepted as a registered office address — it needs to be a physical address capable of receiving post. Some businesses use a registered office service address rather than their trading address.
