UK company law reforms have introduced identity verification for directors and people with significant control — a change aimed at making the Companies House register harder to abuse for fraud.

Who It's Aimed At

Directors and PSCs (people with significant control) are the main groups affected, along with anyone filing certain documents with Companies House on a company's behalf.

What's Actually Checked

Typically a government-issued photo ID, plus some way of confirming it belongs to the person presenting it — a live selfie or short liveness check is a common approach.

You Don't Have to Do It Alone

Verification can be completed directly through Companies House, or through an authorised corporate service provider (ACSP) who verifies your identity and confirms it on your behalf.
